I’ve learned that leadership isn’t always about being the loudest person in the room. Often, it means paying attention, staying calm, and being someone others can count on.
Some of my most important lessons have come from working with young people at Ceta Canyon Camp and Retreat Center. I started as a camp counselor, responsible for creating a safe, welcoming experience for groups of campers. Over time, I took on greater responsibilities—coordinating schedules, resolving conflicts, mentoring junior counselors, and helping campers feel included. That experience led to my selection for a lead counselor role, an opportunity to guide others and set the example for the team.
Working as a lifeguard at the YMCA strengthened those same qualities in a different environment. Watching over a busy pool taught me to remain alert, communicate clearly, enforce rules fairly, and be prepared to respond when someone needed help.
These experiences have shaped who I am: patient, dependable, adaptable, and comfortable making decisions under pressure. I enjoy helping people, solving problems, and contributing to a team. Whether I’m encouraging a camper, supporting a coworker, speaking with a parent, or responding to an unexpected situation, I try to bring a positive attitude.
I’m still at the beginning of my story. I want to keep learning, take on new challenges, and discover where my strengths can make the greatest difference. Wherever the next opportunity leads, I’ll bring the lessons I’ve already learned: show up prepared, treat people with respect, stay calm when things get difficult, and leave every place better than I found it.
